Welcome to the Sid Valley Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group Page 2026
HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF SIDMOUTH
Could you help review Sidmouth’s Neighbourhood Plan?
Sidmouth’s Neighbourhood Plan is an important opportunity for local people to have a say in how our town and the wider Sid Valley develops in the future, while protecting the things that make the area special.
Sidmouth Town Council is now undertaking a review of the Sid Valley Neighbourhood Plan, which was adopted in 2019. Since then, there have been significant changes, including new development and investment in Port Royal, a new housing needs survey commissioned by the Town Council, updated national planning guidance and a new emerging Local Plan which is nearing completion by the Local Planning Authority (EDDC).
The Council has therefore established a Neighbourhood Plan Review Steering Group and is inviting up to five local people to join Town Councillors in helping to undertake this important work.
Could you get involved?
We are looking for people who:
- Have a real passion for Sidmouth and the wider Sid Valley
- Bring ideas, energy and enthusiasm
- Are willing to work constructively with others and consider different views
- Want to help ensure that the future of the area reflects the needs and aspirations of local people
- Can commit the time needed to contribute to the project
You don’t need to be a planning expert. Professional qualifications or specialist planning knowledge are not required. What matters most is that you know and care about the area and want to play a positive and active part in shaping its future.
People with interests or experience in areas such as housing, the environment, heritage, community development, business or planning are welcome to apply. Applications from people involved with local organisations, community groups and societies are particularly encouraged.
What will the Steering Group do?
The Steering Group will help guide the review of the Neighbourhood Plan, considering how it can be updated and strengthened to reflect current local priorities and circumstances.
An important part of the work will be engaging with the local community and listening to a wide range of views about the future of Sidmouth and the Sid Valley.
The role is voluntary and unpaid, but it provides a valuable opportunity to contribute to the future of the place in which you live, work and care about.
The Steering Group is expected to meet approximately once a month for a half-daymeeting, with some reading, research and preparation required between meetings. The review is expected to take up to two years to complete.
Could you join us?
