Sidmouth Town Council has confirmed the line-up for the hugely popular Sidmouth Regatta Airshow which will return on Friday 25 August 2023 as part of the Regatta Weekend and are now appealing for volunteers to help collect towards the show.
The 2023 Regatta Airshow line-up has something for everyone and will start around 5pm with a return to Sidmouth by Team Raven who wowed crowds last year. The team consists of a six plane formation of the ultra-manoeuvrable Van’s RV-8 mono-wing aircraft flying in formation with the aim of the team to present a constant display of aerobatics.
Next with a historic theme, will be the two principal aircraft who defended the skies above Britain in 1940 with an RAF Spitfire and Hurricane from the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight taking to the skies over the sea. The now nearly 80 year old aircraft will perform as a duo before displaying separately bringing the much loved sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin Engine to the skies over the town.
Visiting Sidmouth for the first time will be the Stampe Formation Display Team. This team is an Airshow act in the finest traditions of classical barnstorming aviation from the 1930s and 40s. The formation of 4 open cockpit, aerobatic bi-planes fly at speeds of up to 130 mph and turn tightly in close formation to remain in front of the crowd throughout the entire routine.
Next up will be an exciting new team in the Airshow world performing their very first season called ‘The Titans’. The Titans are an original two-ship display team, bringing a unique pairing of dissimilar aircraft. Matching one of the highest performing unlimited aircraft on the market, the Xtremeair XA42, with an upgraded version of an all-time classic, the American Decathlon.
Creating the usual finale to the Airshow for 2023 will be the RAF Aerobatic Team, the Red Arrows who are sure to delight crowds with their perfectly synchronised flying and manoeuvrers. Sidmouth Regatta Airshow 2023 is shaping up to be highlight of the year and a fitting start to the Regatta Weekend of events, details of which will be publicised shortly.
Volunteer Collectors are needed from 4pm across the seafront, Salcombe and Peak Hills and Connaught Gardens where donations will be taken through buckets and contactless payment. They are a vital part of the Airshow team. Without them and donations from the public, the event could not take place. If anyone is able to offer help, please register your interest by contacting Sidmouth Town Council at towncouncil@sidmouth.gov.uk and the organising team will then be in touch.
Sidmouth’s Airshow will take place on Friday 25 August from approximately 5.00pm off the seafront. In addition to the many usual Council car parks, extra parking will be provided and signed on the day and the usual water safety zone will be enforced to enable watercraft to view from a safe distance.
