Would you like to get a book published? This lively, practical session will demystify the publishing process and offer advice on both traditional and self-publishing. You’ll learn the basics of how to find the right agent for you and the best way to approach them, how advances and royalties work and be given tips for avoiding vanity publishers. There will also be advice on self-publishing and how to tackle formatting and book cover design.

Protecting your copyright has never been more important for both traditionally published and self-published authors, and this will be covered during the session.

Author and writing tutor Maria McCarthy has lectured on publishing at Bristol and Bath universities and at literature festivals. She also teaches Creative Writing at Kennaway House, Sidmouth. Maria says, ‘Getting a book published can be a daunting prospect, but I’ll be offering down-to-earth advice which I hope will leave everyone feeling more confident when it comes to deciding their next steps.’
