Sidmouth’s annual Christmas Lights Switch On is Saturday 22 November in the Market Place and Sidmouth Town Council is once again providing the festive display along the streets. The event is combined with Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce’s Late Night Shopping Event so the thousands of people in town will be able to shop later after the light switch on.
To help get you in the Christmas mood, Sid Valley Radio is kindly providing music and entertainment from 2pm. Then from around 4.30pm, local four-piece rock and pop covers band ‘Static Charge’ fronted by Ashley Leeds, will be cheering crowds and shoppers along with a selection of electrifying songs and music.
The eagerly anticipated Annual ‘Golden Ticket’ draw will take place at 5.15pm which is a chance for local area Primary School children, who will have received a ticket at school, to win a huge £100 Toy Voucher generously donated by Gliddon’s Toy Shop of Church Street.
Then at 5.30pm it will be the grand switch on of the Christmas Lights. The Town lighting is once again designed and engineered by Torbay Display who are also contracted to supply lights to Fields of Sidmouth. This year, the Christmas Lights will be switched on by Sidmouth College students Jack Massey and Holly Vicarage alongside members of the Student Council who will be attending and recognised for their hard work and dedication.
The Chair of Sidmouth Town Council, Councillor Hilary Nelson commented “I am delighted that Jack and Holly will be switching on our lights this year to recognise their hard work. I am also so pleased that Chamber of Commerce continue to support the Council by joining their Late Night Shopping Event alongside the switching on of the Christmas Lights for the Town, allowing our businesses to take advantage of the crowds”
As part of the event and in addition to Static Charge, Sidmouth Town Band will also be providing a brass ensemble outside Hays Travel and the La-La Choir will be at the Fore St, Old Fore Street junction to help shoppers enjoy the many shops staying open later than usual. Sidmouth’s Christmas light display and switch on is provided by Sidmouth Town Council, kindly supported by Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce. Thanks also go to Kings Garden Centre who have again generously provided the Town’s Christmas Tree. Saturday 22 November with both the Christmas Light switch on and Late Night Shopping, is shaping up to be a sparkling tonic to the darker evenings and great start to the Christmas festivities in Sidmouth.
