Mill Street Footbridge, Sidmouth – Replacement

The works are planned to commence on Tuesday 8th September 2026 and be completed by Friday 2nd October 2026.

During the works:

  • The road through the ford will be temporarily closed, with a signed vehicular diversion route in place.
  • The footbridge will be closed, and a pedestrian diversion plan will be advertised on site highlighting the alternative route by foot
  • Approximately 24 metres (4 parking spaces) of parking will be restricted along Milford Road to provide a welfare area and material/plant storage for the works.
  • No night works are currently planned, and all works will be undertaken during normal working hours

If works are still ongoing on the 26th September, the closure will be lifted for the Carnival Parade which is planned.

The proposed diversion routes have been reviewed by the local Neighbourhood Highways Officer and Public Rights of Way Warden. The programme has been developed to avoid the summer school holidays and to ensure completion before Environment Agency restrictions on in-channel works come into force for the salmonid season (1st October to 31st May).
