Traditionally during Sidbury Fair week, Hot Pennies were thrown into the street for the children to collect – a boon for the impoverished villagers of the time.
Hot Pennies are still thrown today from the Church Street walls but now to the children of Sidbury School who look forward to the event every year.
GLOVE CEREMONY at 12 noon followed by HOT PENNIES
Hot (warm!) pennies collected at The Red Lion, Sidbury School and Drews are thrown over the churchyard wall into Church Street for Sidbury School children to collect.
