Managing Devon’s Bridges; Devon has the largest stock of local authority bridges in the UK at just under 3,500. The County Council has an in-house engineering consultancy of around 90 engineers and technicians who undertake most aspects of highway design and maintenance, including the vital work associated with Devon’s extensive bridge stock.
Kevin Dentith was the Chief Bridge Engineer for Devon County Council until he retired in 2023.
In this talk, Kevin will describe the work of the Bridges Group he used to manage including how often bridges are inspected, how difficult repairs are undertaken and how the most challenging ‘suicide risk’ sites are handled.
