Sidmouth Lifeboat is a fully self-funded, independent lifeboat charity based in East Devon. We cover approximately 150 square miles of sea between Axmouth and Budleigh Salterton. With more than 50 volunteers and seasonal employees, we rely on donations and legacies to maintain our service.
Our Operations Team crews and supports the lifeboat, providing cover 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. As a declared rescue facility, every member of the Operations Team carries a pager and responds to Coastguard requests to launch following 999 calls. We operate two lifeboats and a purpose-built launch vehicle, with training held every Tuesday and every other Sunday.
Our Support Team opens the boathouse 364 days a year, welcoming visitors and local residents while sharing information about our work. Both lifeboats and the launch vehicle can be viewed inside the boathouse, which also has a small gift shop.
We employ lifeguards to provide daily beach safety cover during the May half-term holiday, followed by weekend cover throughout June and early July. In the run-up to the summer holidays, our lifeguards return to daily duty and remain on patrol until early September.
